Holland Adventist Academy is blessed to introduce our new principal and 5th-8th grade teacher, Dr. Ernst Jacques. Dr. Jacques is a dedicated educator with over fourteen years of experience in teaching science and mathematics at the university, college, middle, and high school levels. His philosophy integrates education with mission, emphasizing the unique role of Adventist Christian education. Dr. Jacques’ educational model is founded on Biblical principles, aiming to support each student in achieving their full potential across academic, emotional, physical, social, and spiritual dimensions.
In his career, Dr. Jacques has demonstrated excellence in leadership, management, and teaching. He developed a Biblical curriculum for a residential facility for high-risk students in South Bend, Indiana and created best practices curriculum for middle and high school students at DePaul Academy in Indiana and Eau Claire Middle and High School in Michigan. Additionally, he serves as an elder and personal ministry director at Michiana FIL-AM SDA Church, advocating for community development through initiatives like after-school programs and food pantries in Berrien Springs, MI. His guiding motto is, “to look for ministry in our backyard.”
Dr. Jacques’ commitment to education has been recognized through multiple nominations for Teacher of the Year at DePaul Academy and Eau Claire Middle and High School. His effective teaching approach emphasizes one-on-one engagement with students.
Dr. Jacques holds a Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics from Montclair State University, two Master’s degrees from Andrews University—Master of Divinity and Master of Higher Education Administration—and has completed coursework for a Ph.D. in Religious Education with a focus on Theological Curriculum and Instruction at Andrews University. He is currently finalizing his thesis. Additionally, he holds a Doctorate in Ministry with an emphasis on Biblical Preaching and Teaching from Liberty University and is a Ph.D. candidate in Christian Leadership Strategic Ministry at Liberty University.
He is married to Mirlene Etienne Jacques, and they have three children: Abygayle, a recent high school graduate; Ishmael, in 11th grade; and Joanna, in 6th grade. Dr. Jacques is a lifelong learner and team builder, characterized by his determination, compassion, and patience. He enjoys reading about leadership and management and is active in sports such as soccer, volleyball, tennis, and pickleball. He aspires to learn golf. His favorite Bible verse is Philippians 1:6, “Being confident of this very thing, that He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.”
